MassCUE/M.A.S.S. 2012 Technology Conference

This session showcases, and explains, a process for developing meaningful assessments of technology’s impact on teaching and learning. Particular emphasis is given to 1:1 initiatives and the potential impacts these have on students and teachers. Participants will learn how they can join a MassCUE professional development project for producing technology initiative evaluations.

In the 2011-2012 school year, a high school English teacher piloted an iPad 1:1 with a senior English class to assess its viability as a 1:1 tool. This workshop will present the findings, focusing on hardware, apps, logistics, assessment, and the viability of the iPad as a 1:1 device.

Come meet our robots and share our Robotics Curriculum. The curriculum spans all grades K-8. We start with simple, programmable Bee-Bots, we work our way through many LEGO Education kits and materials, and the finale is the NAO Platform and its humanoid, programmable robot and its STEM curriculum.

Looking to shake up your information literacy curriculum? Keeping up with social media and students' personal interests are crucial in cultivating an engaging library classroom. Join one school librarian on her mission to improve literacy skills through the use of a variety of web 2.0 tools, apps, and other fun and easy technologies! Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet device to try out tools along the way!

This presentation will highlight how using online tools can engage students in 21st century literacies, primarily writing and thinking, in a way that traditional pedagogy cannot. Particularly, using online tools affords digital natives the opportunity to receive instant feedback (in additional to traditional feedback) and flexibility with participation time that can motivate students to achieve at higher levels. This presentation will unpack how a teacher can incorporate online tools to calibrate their scoring of writing and keep students connected with their class and with their content as much as students are connected to their computers to limit academic regression when students are away from school. Because the new Common Core requires that all teachers become literacy teachers, this workshop will discuss online tools that support teachers who are not classically trained writing teachers bridge the gaps that may be left despite a district's professional development initiatives
